Beginning in the spring of 2004, thousands of "Lift the Cap" yard signs, banners and bumper stickers were distributed in neighborhoods throughout Milwaukee. This was the beginning of a grass roots effort to mobilize community support for providing educational options to all families.
Enrollment in Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP) schools has grown every year as parents seek to take advantage of educational options for their children. The "Lift the Cap" campaign is designed to raise awareness of this issue and persuade the Governor to support the educational options that so many Milwaukee parents desire.
The grassroots campaign is being expanded with the start of a public information campaign urging citizens to call Governor Doyle and ask him to "Lift the Cap."
The expanded campaign includes radio commercials on urban contemporary and news talk stations, television commercials during Sunday morning news shows, billboards and bus signage throughout Milwaukee, and print advertisements in community newspapers and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
